Ninja Gaiden
Love this game. I found it to be a bit difficult but with patience, you can kick arse. Ninja Gaiden is not realistically ninja's adventure per say. Sure there is the element of revenge but if you are looking for a stealth assassination game for you then you will be disappointed. Ninja Gaiden allows you to hack, kick, slash your way to your revenge. And Ryu's acrobatic ability is worth checking too.

Overrated.
This game gets a lot of attention, and its swift cut and kill gameplay can be great - when it all comes together. I've been gaming for years, and I put a lot of time into trying to master this - but it became clear that I was fighting lame, out of date game design and insane difficulty spikes, as much as I was the black belt AI.
Of all the games I've played, this one left me the emptiest, and angriest. There's much better out there. Leave alone.

ninja gaiden ps3
i had this on the original xbox but couldn't get past the 4th chapter. Just completed this on ps3, solid game but very rewarding graphics are good and the combat is deep.

Dissapointing
This is the first game of the Ninja Gaiden series that I have played. I have played games which I expected to be similar, such as games from the Tenchu series or Red Ninja. I had read good things in other reviews and was quite looking forward to playing it. However, as I didnt know what to expect I went in with an open mind.
I almost immediately regretted my purchase.
I thought the controls were poorly planned. Any game which doesnt provide a way to invert the camera control in-game will have issues with some gamers. I am one of them. The battle system was not particularly good, with no real combos (mashing square does not constitute a combo) and an over-powered charge move which made the rest of your attacks redundant. Things like the wall run and jumping were, though necessary for a game of this type, looked a little ridiculous and were, in my opinion, badly animated.
Another major fault was that there was no stealth element, at least not in the early part of the game which I forced myself through. What kind of ninja game does not take stealth into account? It didnt make any sense, in my opinion, as that was the one thing I thought was most important to the genre.
The final nail in the coffin, for me at least, was the stupid names things were given. The run of the mill, no-clue about what things were actually like names. Names like flying-bird flip and ninja fortress. I dont pretend to be an expert of this time period of Japanese history but, with the little knowledge I have, these names seem clearly out of place. They are the sort of things that you expect to find in a kids TV show and not in a popular game series. I admit that this is not going to be a problem for most people but after playing Red Ninja, which takes the names of actual figures of the period in which it is set, I found this to be rather childish.
The only redeeming feature of this game were the graphics. They were extremely smooth without any noticeable flaws. The colouring was strong and bright and the character animation was, mostly, spot on. However, after playing games such as Tenchu or Genji you realise that smooth bright graphics dont suit this type of game.
So if you want to play a ninja game that has poor combat, irritating controls and no sign of stealth then this is the game for you.

copy & paste?
i had this game once on the first x-box. this one looks too similar to be a ps3 title. i was wondering if they just pressed the old x-box title on a blue ray?
nevertheless it's at least a ninja gaiden that can be played on the ps3, for that 2 points :)
