Resident evil hits new low
I thought that gun game for the playstation was going to take the gong as the worst RE game, it was a shambles and looked like the game Capcom could forgot was ever made. On this offering they may want to dredge it back up and reinstate it as a must-have classic such is the shoddy waste of time that is Resident Evil 5.
From the start you feel like you are playing some kind of cheap half-arsed Call of Duty wannabe with zombies - good graphics (in that as a third person watching somebody else play they look good - when playing, the limited palette and the ridiculously narrow field of view all but make the prettiness fade into contemptuous insignificance) and crap controls. We are of course supposed to put the bad controls down to the design of tense gameplay but this time Capcom it's all too transparent. The controls are so bad that I actually wonder if anybody test played this game before release.
I loved every RE game so far (apart from said light gun game) and so was looking forward to playing this one - it really saddens me that they have sold out on the franchise to cash in on a trend for action third person games. Maybe RE 6 will re-instate the survival horror heritage but RE 5 will forever remain the game that nobody could be arsed to play.

Review from a 19 year old's perspective.
Resident Evil. Need I say more?
Follows on from a story noone has heard of but it has Zombies! Shotguns! Demons that cannot-be-named! And the infamous Pistol!
Game was immense. I think it took a week or two on-and-off to complete this, (was completing with a partner). If you're buying this for solo-play, it's recommended. You get all the items, herbs, ammo and guns!
For Co-op play, whoa. Blew our minds. End fight was superb. Sorry to complete this sucker but it has extra's after completed so it gives you a weaning period.
Overall, the game was amazing. Guns, zombies. You know what's in order. Buy it and get it over with! Don't live with 'maybe next time!'
Enjoy the game, as we certainly did!

A brilliant game
Resident evil is a long running series with many followers, Many of whom have played the original games on older consoles, Loving the game for it's many pickups and special missions, And they've all expected this game to follow that trend and it doesn't disappoint, With a vast selection of weapons and collectibles, This game will provide many hours of fully enjoyable play, With a reward at the end of the game to keep you coming back for more, Another feature of Resident Evil 5 is the new multi-player option known as "Co-Op Play" In which you bring in a second player on a different gaming profile to assist you through the game, This option is also available online where you can set your game mode as "No Limits" Which means anyone can request to join your game and play it with you, "Invite Only" Which means that you can invite one of your friends from your Xbox Live Friends list to play it through with you, Or "Rogue" Which means no one can join, And you can't invite anyone to join the gaming session, This mode is mainly for hardcore players who want to play alone and reap the rewards of their own hard work, All in all, This game is a wonderful addition to the Resident Evil series and a must-have for Collectors, I would happily recommend this game to everyone.Resident Evil 5 (Xbox 360)

The best of the series so far.
Having just completed the wonderful RE4 I expected much from this game and I am happy to say that it delivers!!!! True it is very similar to RE4 in gameplay, style and even story but, hey, why change a winning formula.
The game looks so good. There is plenty of variety in backgrounds and settings and some gruesome monsters and enemies. Some of the monsters are old, like the dogs and chainsaw wielding bad guys, but there are many new ones, all rendered in great detail.
The story is pretty standard for this sort of game, but there are some interesting touches. I like what they have done with Jill Valentine, though I wouldn't want to spoil it here for anyone who is yet to play the game. (I did guess it before it is revealed}.
Sheva is a great addition and makes a useful sidekick. She gives a whole new dimension to the game, as you have to equip her with weapons and ammo etc..I also like the fact that you can play as Sheva when you have completed the games. It does actually make a difference to some of the scenes.
The weapon system is also a real plus in this game. Just like RE4 you can buy, sell and upgrade weapons. A fully upgraded magnum or shotgun is a hell of a weapon. There are so many different kinds of weapons as well. It all adds to the replay value of the game.
On top of that there are lots of other things to discover. Medallions to shoot which allow extras to be unlocked. Relics and gems to find and sell for cash. Also the higher grade you get for completing a level allows you to unlock even more extras. There is so much to find and some many extras etc... that combined with difficulty levels, being able to play as Sheva, mini games and so on, you could play this game many times and not discover it all.
The levels are mainly exploring, shooting, puazzle solving etc.. but there are a fair few vehicles to drive which give it a different feel and add variety.
There are various bosses littered around the game, some are easy but some are hard. The hardest I found were the one you encounter on the cargo ship and the battle with Wesker in the enemy base, (just before the final battle on the island after the plane crash).
I love this game and if you have access to XBOX Live there is going to be a new add on giving extra gameplay. Not sure exactly what it is but it is connected with the cut scene where you see the death? of Jill Valentine when she is thrown out of the castle window. Look forward to it.

Good but not quite Great
Control system takes a little bit of getting used to and the lengthy cut scenes can be annoying, however, all things aside this is a great game at the price especially when you play in full co-op.
Can't help thinking that in certain respects the Graphics although excellent do at times look a little dated. But 10-12 months is a long time in gaming development.
Definately worth a couple of play throughs at the very least.
Not tried on of the DLC optional modes as I feel that it won't translate too well having already been spoilt with the likes of MW2.
Summary Great Game for the price and the slight flaws can be excused.
